 Clear out the garage

Most people start out cleaning their garage by just picking things up and organizing them. Sure, that is one way to go about it, but if you want a really organized garage, it is best to clear everything out first. Not only will you have a “black canvas”, so to speak, but you’ll also have all of your stuff out in the open, which makes organization planning easier.

Use Vertical Space

There’s a reason cities are full of high rises; those vertical buildings allow people the space they need to live there. When organizing your garage, it is best to use a similar strategy. There are plenty of easy Do It Yourself wall and ceiling storage attachments for you to utilize all of the space in your garage, not just the floors.

Learn to Let Go

You may not have expected this one on the list, but sometimes it is just better to let some things go than try to find a place for them when there is not enough space. And most people have more than enough clutter in their garage to donate at least some of it. Consider donating or giving away any items in your garage that you do not need; it will be the easiest cleaning and organization you have ever done!

Like with Like

The key to good garage organization is knowing exactly where everything is, and having easy access to it. By grouping like items with like, it is easier to determine where something will be. Make sure that the items that you use more regularly are in a spot where they are more easily available, saving the harder to reach spots for the items that you don’t use.

Don’t Forget Functionality

Your garage organization should be based around its functionality? Do you fill it with cars, or have you converted it to other uses as well? This may determine how much you need to rely on ceiling storage containers that can get all of your things out of the way. If you only use it sparsely, perhaps movable storage racks could be an option. Make sure things like bikes and sports equipment are by the garage door, where they can be easily taken out and put back up.

Don’t let organizing your garage daunt you, it is well worth it in the end!
